US visa photo and residence permit photo in Ankara

100 m from the U.S. Embassy

If your interview is at the U.S. Embassy in Ankara, we are the closest studio. We take the 51x51 mm print and prepare the DS-160 upload file in the same session. We also take Turkish residence permit photos.

Ready in 5 minutes. No appointment. Come before your interview, walk out with the prints and the digital file.

Rules that apply to every visa photo

Consulates ask for the same basics regardless of country. Print size and digital file limits change by destination.

  • Recency: taken within the last 6 months and showing how you look now, in colour.
  • Pose: full face to camera, neutral expression, mouth closed, both eyes open.
  • Background: plain light colour — white, light grey or cream; patterns and shadows are rejected.
  • Quality: sharp, evenly lit and shadow-free; app-erased backgrounds often fail portal checks.

The U.S. standard

United States — visa, DS-160, Green Card, USCIS

51x51 mm

Print size51x51 mm (2x2 inches), square
BackgroundWhite or off-white
Head sizeHead fills 50–69% of the photo height (25–35 mm in print); eyes 56–69% from the bottom (28–35 mm in print)
Digital fileAt least 600x600, at most 1200x1200 pixels, 240 KB, JPEG
Age of photoTaken within the last 6 months

The same size applies to the passport, Green Card, naturalisation (N-400) and USCIS applications. The DS-160 form needs a square file. A normal 4:3 portrait crop is rejected by the upload check. Glasses have been banned in new visa photos since 1 November 2016. Head height must be 25–35 mm in print, or 50–69% of the image height in a digital file. We give you the print and the upload file together.

The Turkish residence permit uses a different size from the US visa. A square 51x51 mm photo is not accepted for e-ikamet. If you need both, tell us and we prepare both from the same session.

The upload is where most people get stuck

The DS-160 photo tool rejects files for reasons it does not explain clearly. Three things cause almost all of it.

  • The file is not square. DS-160 needs a 1:1 image. A photo cropped in a normal portrait ratio fails before anything else is checked.
  • The file size or resolution is wrong. The limit is 240 KB; resolution must be between 600x600 and 1200x1200. A high-resolution photo at the correct print size still fails.
  • The head is too small. This happens when the photo is taken from too far away. The head has to fill 50–69% of the frame height.

We prepare the file to those exact numbers and send it to you by email or WhatsApp before you leave. If the tool still rejects it, come back and we fix it at no charge.

If the authority does not accept a photo we took, we shoot it again. No charge.

Why visa photos get rejected

  • A photo for one country used for another. A square 51x51 mm photo for the United States is not accepted for Schengen. A Turkish ID photo is not accepted for a US visa. Size and head ratio are different.
  • A shadow on the background. Standing close to a wall throws a shadow at head height. Automated checks catch this.
  • Glare on glasses. Most countries allow glasses but not glare. US visa photos have banned glasses since 1 November 2016. We change the lighting angle in the studio; for a US sitting we take the glasses off.
  • The head ratio is wrong. The distance from chin to the top of the hair has a fixed ratio to the photo height. Phone distance changes every time, so the ratio does not hold.
  • The photo is older than six months. Almost every country wants a photo taken in the last six months.
  • The file is over the size limit. The upload screen shows an error without saying why. This is the detail most people miss.

A rejected photo does not just cost you the photo. It costs you the appointment. The next slot can be weeks away.

Questions people ask

What size is a US visa photo?

51x51 mm, that is 2x2 inches, square. The file uploaded to the DS-160 form must be between 600x600 and 1200x1200 pixels and no larger than 240 KB.

What size is a Schengen visa photo?

35x45 mm, that is 3.5x4.5 cm. Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and the other Schengen states use the same size.

Can I use my US visa photo for a Schengen application?

No. The US photo is a square 51x51 mm; the Schengen photo is a 35x45 mm rectangle. Head ratios differ too. A new sitting is required.

Do I need an appointment?

No. Just come in. The photo is ready in five minutes.

Do you give me a digital file for the online form?

Yes. We send it by email or WhatsApp, prepared to the pixel and file size limit of the portal you are using.

Is a visa photo more expensive than a biometric photo?

No. The country size changes. The price does not.

Can I wear glasses?

Most countries allow glasses but not glare on the lenses. US visa photos have banned glasses since 1 November 2016. Bring them; we shoot with and without glasses and show you both.

What if my photo is rejected?

We shoot it again at no charge.

Where can I get a visa photo near the U.S. Embassy in Ankara?

Our studio is 100 m from the embassy, at Ambrosia İş Merkezi No: 11 in Çukurambar. It is a 1–2 minute walk. No appointment needed and the photo is ready in five minutes.

Can I use my US visa photo for the Turkish residence permit?

No. The US photo is a square 51x51 mm and the Turkish residence permit photo is 50x60 mm. They are different shapes. If you need both, we prepare both from the same session.

Why does the DS-160 photo tool reject my photo?

Usually one of three reasons: the file is not square, it is outside 600x600–1200x1200, or it is larger than 240 KB. The head must fill 50–69% of the frame height. If the confirmation page shows an X instead of your photo, the upload failed. We prepare the file to those numbers.

Do you speak English?

Yes. You can also write to us on WhatsApp in English before you come.
